KS1 Reading Support

Eligible partner schools will meet at least two of the following criteria: 

• Lower than average PSC scores for disadvantaged pupils
• Lower than average percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check
• Higher than average proportion of children eligible for pupil premium 
• High proportion of groups considered hard to reach such as EAL, FSM, travellers
• Referral by local partners (e.g. Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE), National Leaders of Education (NLEs),and Local Authorities (LAs)

• Standards in phonics have been identified as areas for development through Ofsted inspection findings
• A risk of declining standards in phonics.

KS2 Reading Support

Eligible partner schools will meet at least two of the following criteria: 

• Lower than average KS2 reading assessment scores for disadvantaged pupils
• Lower than average percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in the end of KS2 reading assessment 
• Higher than average proportion of children eligible for pupil premium
• High proportion of groups considered hard to reach such as EAL, FSM, travellers
• Referral by local partners (e.g. Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE), National Leaders of Education (NLEs), Local Authorities (LAs)

• Standards in reading have been identified as an area for development through Ofsted inspection findings.

Secondary Reading Support

Eligible partner schools will meet at least two of the following criteria: 

• A higher than average number of Year 7 pupils who did not meet the expected standard in the KS2 reading assessment
• Disadvantaged pupils’ KS4 attainment is below the national average for disadvantaged pupils.
• Higher than average proportion of pupils eligible for pupil premium.
• There is a high proportion of priority groups such as EAL, FSM, travellers
• There is a higher-than-average number of pupils with SEND
• Reading has been identified as an area for development by Ofsted.
• Secondary schools in which the staff leading in reading are new to their positions.

Early Language and Literacy Support in Early Years 

The hub have contacted prioritised, eligible schools, via the Department for Education, to access the Early Language and Literacy level of support. Once this has been completed, we invite eligible schools and settings to complete a self referral to potentially access support in this remit.
